First off, is your Mac compatible? · 2015 and later MacBook · 2013 and later MacBook Air · 2013 and later MacBook Pro · 2014 and later Mac mini · 2014 and later iMac · 2017 and later iMac Pro · 2013 and later Mac Pro OK, we know there are workarounds to get OS XI on unsupported hardware. We have found that it is more hassle than it’s worth for most users and subsequent updates to the OS will cause headaches. |
Are your ducks in a row? Depending on which version of OS X you are on currently, you have varying levels of home work to do. Back up using Time Machine: Back up your system to an external hard drive, make sure you have a full complete backup. File System: If your Mac is built prior to 2017 you may have an older version of the file system which will require updating. 32 bit apps: There are programs and apps that worked fine with older versions of OS X but will not work on Catalina or Big Sur. Ready to take the plunge? There are hard coded changes that happen with Apple computers when operating systems get updated. Make sure that you have a back up plan and all your info is safe.
